Listed below is one of several letters we received earlier this year.

Dear Hospice Family:

I wanted to let you know how your hospice family was such a blessing to us. We had no idea when Bud’s doctor said he thought Bud needed hospice services that it would become so important during that difficult time. Bud’s illness and decline was so fast, and we would never have been able to deal with all that happened without your people and your wonderful services. Just two weeks before starting with hospice, a close friend had talked to me about how much hospice had helped her when her husband became ill; we talked about all they provided, and she expressed how important it had been to them that he was able to die peacefully and without pain in his own home with his family around him. I had no idea that day that we would soon feel exactly the same sentiments.

After meeting the members of the hospice team, we knew we had made the right decision in going with SolAmor Hospice. Peggy and Kristal were especially helpful and we can state, without hesitation, that they made all the difference during Bud’s final days. We had so many crises during that time, and these two ladies were at our home day after day (and night) trying to be sure Bud was as comfortable as possible. They both had their own special touch and would kneel next to Bud and speak softly to him, and we could see him relax when he heard their voices. You cannot imagine how comforting that was nor how much we came to depend on them. We could not have asked for anything better, and we will never forget their kind hearts and sweet dispositions as they sat with Bud so many times.

Steve was so helpful when he came to our home to introduce us to Hospice, and Ron sat with Bud for a long time and visited with him. Even though they were only in our home one time, they made an impact on Bud and myself. We also appreciated Rick coming to our home that day and saying a wonderful prayer with Bud just a couple of hours before he died. Of course, Becky was also around, doing what she could as a member of your hospice family, but more than anything else, she was there as part of our family. But it was the efforts of the whole hospice team that gave us so much information, educating us on what was happening and helping us to understand the dying process. Every family needs these things because none of us ever knows how to handle a situation like this. We are just never truly prepared, no matter how much time we have with them.

We want to thank each one of you that came to our home. Your professional and caring attitudes were evident, and we will surely recommend your agency to others who find themselves in the same position we were in - suddenly faced with the fact that someone dear to us has very little time left. God bless each one of you in your ministry of helping others. It means the world to families.

Sincerely,
Barbara
